Dezeen’s OLEDs Go! Competition – Winner Announced
The winner of the global OLEDs Go! Competition, hosted by LG Display and Dezeen, is revealed!
The global ‘OLEDs Go! Competition’ hosted by LG Display and Dezeen sought designs that enhanced daily processes. We received over 200 entrants from more than 50 countries and were blown away by the innovation and skill showcased across the competition. Each entry demonstrated an impressive understanding of how OLED display’s innovative technology can be used to solve existing problems. We want to extend huge congratulations to all entrants for their originality and incredible attention to detail.
The top 5 finalists were announced in April, which included ideas based on OLED technology’s key qualities, such as flexibility, lightness and thinness, as well as being transparent due to having no back-light for a light source. Entrees had diverse ideas using OLED, such as a flexible screen, a rollable display, a three-in-one console, a transparent TV that curves into a shelf and a device that can be wheeled from room to room. Many of the designs were inspired by the recent pandemic, representing a shift in how we use technology in our own homes. The judges were impressed with the quality of each design, but there can only be one final winner.
Congratulations to our first place winners, Richard Bone & Jisu Yun for the design of Scroll, a design for a Transparent OLED TV that double functions as a shelf, securing the grand prize of €15,000! Signal’s foldable screen/ambient light takes second place with the prize of €10,000, and Flag. R’s rollable screen, Console’s TV/light and LG Trollie’s portable device take joint third place in the competition, receiving €7,000 each.
Scroll was created by design duo Richard Bone and Jisu Yun. This unique design uses OLED’s transparent technology to make the black screen disappear when not in use. Inspired by an unraveled scroll, the slim OLED screen flicks into a curve at the bottom to create a simple shelf made from anodized metal. This innovative piece of technology is the perfect combination of form and function.
Delivering a widespread compendium of inspiring designs, the OLEDs Go! Competition, hosted by LG Display and Dezeen, demonstrates a plethora of possibilities in which OLED technology can be used to innovate, inspire and educate our day-to-day lives.
