At the YCC (Young Collectors Council) Party in June last year, the Guggenheim Museum and LG announced “The LG Guggenheim Art and Technology Initiative,” a 5-year multilateral partnership to discover and support artists that use technology as their medium of art. LG Display presented a massive scaled Transparent OLED Photowall at the party to the delight of the guests, heightening the expectations of new and amazing experiences soon to be brought forward by converging technology and art.
This year, newcomer Farah Al Qasimi, hailing from UAE, was in charge of designing the 2023 YCC Party. By utilizing LG Display’s ground-breaking Transparent OLED technology, she completely transformed the Guggenheim Museum into a full-fledged party venue that showcased a futuristic “Artificial Digital Paradise” where technology and art coexist.
“For me, it’s exciting to see the work shown with this level of detail, this level of sharpness of color and hyper-reality. And really brings it to a different dimension,” she said, marveling at Transparent OLED’s vivid colors and spacial impressions that brought her childhood inspirations from “Blade Runner,” “The Fifth Element,” and other SF movies to life.
Continuing its tradition from the year before, the large-sized Transparent OLED Photowall was once again the hit of the party. Guests, adorned to match the Futuristic Floral dress code, struck stunning poses for lively phot-op sessions against the backdrop of florescent tulips and sparkling neon-green starlight on Transparent OLED screens.
Newly integrated this year were the vertical Transparent OLED screens at the DJ Booth and bar area, creating a futuristic and dreamlike atmosphere. In particular, Farah’s video artwork displayed behind Transparent OLEDs on each side of the DJ Booth added visual entertainment on top of the DJ’s upbeat music.
At the peak of this year’s YCC Party was the congratulatory toast to the inaugural recipient of the “LGxGuggenheim Award,” awarded to artists that present innovative artworks at the intersection of technology and art. Actor Lee Jung-jae, of the Squid Game fame, was also present to congratulate the award’s first winnerㅡAI-based transmedia artist Stepanie Dinkins.
Transparent OLED was once like a slice of a distant future, but now it is seamlessly integrating into various facets of our everyday lives. Its capacity to intersect art and technology is garnering increasing awareness and popularity from artists and art lovers everywhere. We invite you to witness the evolution of Transparent OLED as it grows into a medium that takes on various roles and creates limitless possibilities.
